Delois Blakely, Harlem Nun, Claims Disney Scammed 'Sister Act'
Remember 'Sister Act'? That Whoopi Goldberg comedy from 1992 that created a not-so-decent follow up together with a Broadway production? Well, a nun in Harlem certainly does, particularly because -- based on her -- Disney stole the concept for that movie from her existence. The lady under consideration is Delois Blakley, whose 1987 autobiography, 'The Harlem Street Nun,' centered on her existence like a "youthful, Black, singing nun serving the road people and youths of Harlem." She's now suing the galleries behind 'Sister Act,' with accusations of breach of contract, misappropriation of likeness and illegal enrichment. Based on the complaint (which you'll read entirely over around the Hollywood Reporter), Blakely contacted Hollywood studio professionals about possibly making the film, with TriStar Pictures indicating interest. The galleries rejected to discuss the legal matter.
