Whats the difference between an album and a mixtape?

I've noticed alot of hip hop artists release these, but I have no idea
what the difference between them is.
Hyro Da Hero for example has only one album, but 3 mixtapes. The
mixtapes just seem to be albums to me..

So, whats the difference?
